Her project uses the development of higher education policy in Indonesia to examine the internationalisation of higher education in peripheral countries more broadly. She examines how internationalisation is justified, interpreted, and practised in universities and am currently beginning an empirical study based in two Indonesian universities. The aim of her project is to contribute to the current sociology of higher education in a globalised economy from the ‘periphery’.
Yi Huang´s research is intended to contribute to our understanding of how undertaking the doctoral journey in another country can trigger significant transformations in the candidate. Although she is focusing on mainland Chinese students who are currently studying in a New Zealand university, She hopes that her research will be of interest to those studying other international doctoral students.
